Elise Sorensen

The first star of the birth of Coloplast was Elise Sorensen, a young nurse who in 1954 came to the world of colostomy due to the illness of her younger sister. The sensitivity of the Sorensen led her to identify the loss of social life of the real problem of colostomy patients. In fact, in those years, medical devices available to the colostomy were cumbersome, unhygienic, expensive and did not offer protection against odors and leaks, not surprising that people who used these safeguards are no longer able to have the same social life than before. Here

Elise Sorensen developed an innovative idea: he created what can now be considered the ancestor of the current bags, bag or a thin non-porous, elastic and adhesive provided.

To produce this new garrison, Sorensen, however, had the need to find a contractor that manufactures its pockets: the willingness and foresight to Loise-Aage Hansen, owner of Dansk Plastic Emballage, a manufacturer of plastic bags, was decisive.

In his company, Lois Hansen-produced innovative bags that stood out for their versatility and their subtlety. These characteristics were very good for ostomy bags she had in mind the Sorensen and so they decided to produce a limited number of hospitals in the area for evidence. The success was such that in 1957 and founded the current Coloplast.

After just two years after its foundation, Coloplast already distributed two-thirds of its production worldwide. Coloplast Today the name appears on a wide range of safeguards to the stoma, as well as products for continence products for skin lesions, products for the mastectomy. With subsidiaries and distributors around the world, Coloplast is a global player in the supply to hospitals and communities. Elise Sorensen still the feeling that he felt towards his patients, remains a guiding principle for more than 6,300 people now work in Coloplast.
