Margarete (Gretchen) Schütte-Lihotzsky (Vienna, January 23, 1897 - Vienna, 18 January 2000) was an Austrian architect. He graduated in 1918 at the Professional School of Art in Vienna in one of two sections of architecture. Dedicated his life to improving the living conditions of the disadvantaged classes and categories of weak,
especially women and children. But his research extends the study of the home environment, especially the kitchen that is committed to reorganize according to dimensions and furnishings more rational. From these studies, our kitchen Frankfurt (1926-27), the first "modern kitchen", a project which has greatly influenced all subsequent production of this environment. In the same years, the commitment to the advancement of women is the basis of interesting projects of the 'home for women who work and live alone, while studies on space for children to bring Margarete Lihotzky design schools, kindergartens and parks game according to criteria that will be long-replicated.
